A FEW MORE THOUGHTS ABOUT THE DETROIT LIONS

The Lions ended the season this past Sunday with a record of nine wins eights losses. No playoffs and of course no chance for a visit to the Super Bowl. The season is over! Once again, the loyal Detroit fans were disappointed.
The Detroit Lions are one of the oldest franchises in the N.F.L. The first Super Bowl was played in 1967. The Lions have never played in the big game. They last won a championship in 1957 in the pre super bowl era. That is about sixty-nine years ago. Most of the very loyal Detroit Lions fan base was not yet born when they won that championship. I was about ten years old and remember that game. I feel bad for the many younger fans who want so bad to see the Detroit football team win.
In 1958 after Detroit star quarter back Bobby Layne was traded to Pittsburg it is said that Bobby put a curse on the team when he allegedly said this team will not win another championship for fifty years. We are now almost seventy years into that curse. That must have been a very powerful curse.
This week I listened to several Detroit sports talk guys talk about the team. I also heard head coach Dan Campbell's press conference. They all gave some thoughts on what the Liosn's problems were this year. Some of the reasons were:
Injuries:
Play calling confusion:
Some players did not seem to have the rights attitude.
Team needs to make some personnel changes on and off the field.
The list goes on.
I have heard these excuses many times before.
I did not hear anyone mention the "THE CURSE OF BOBBY LAYNE:
All the teams in the N.F.L. have the same problems except the possible curse.
The good teams find ways to play through these issues. They are prepared. they compensate. They adjust. They have backup plans Etc. They win.
The Lions fans of all ages have always been extremely supportive. They buy tickets, watch on T.V., listen on radio, and buy every kind of Lions merchandise available. They put their money where their mouth is!
The reasons that they failed to make the playoffs this year or ever gone to a super bowl are always the same. All teams have these same problems. The Lions have to deal with these issues. They are letting life-long fans down.
Possibly they have to consider more carefully "THE CURSE OF BOBBY LAYNE" This has gone on a lot longer than fifty years. Maybe it is not taken seriously enough. This might have something to do with why they have never played in a super bowl.
I wonder if that's possible. I really wonder!
