A FEW MORE THOUGHTS ABOUT THE DETROIT LIONS
The Lions ended the season this past Sunday with a record of nine wins eights losses. No playoffs and of course no chance for a visit to the Super Bowl. The season is over! Once again, the loyal Detroit fans were disappointed. The Detroit Lions are one of the oldest franchises in the N.F.L. The first Super Bowl was played in 1967. The Lions have never played in the big game. They last won a championship in 1957 in the pre super bowl era. That is about sixty-nine years ago.

THE CURSE HAS NOT ENDED
The dictionary defines a curse as a solemn utterance intended to invoke a supernatural power to inflict harm or punishment on someone or something. Bobby Layne played professional football for 15 years. He became a Detroit Lion in 1950.He played quarterback for the Lions for 8 years. He led Detroit to three NFL championships in the 1950's. This was the pre-Super Bowl era. Bobby led the Lions to the 1957 championship. It was the last time the Detroit Lions played in or won a c

REMEMBERING PERRY AND DEAN
There is a lot to watch on "You Tube". I watch it quite a bit. Lately I have been watching and listening to a lot of music. I have started listening to a lot of music by popular performers from a gone by era. Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett among many others. Two that I have watched and listened to lately that I may not have appreciated as much many years ago are Perry Como and Dean Martin. Perry Como was born in 1912. He quit school at fourteen and

HERE'S THE NEWS
What is the news? I Googled the question. News is information about recent events or happenings. Especially as reported by means of newspapers, websites. radio, television, I-phone, and others. I am thinking about news this morning because I just returned from the gym. They have several televisions on the wall that you can watch while exercising. This morning two of the T.V. sets were showing a couple of nationally televised morning shows broadcast from New York City. The set

A FEW THOUGHTS ABOUT THE WEATHER {CLIMATE}
The planet earth is about 4.5 billion years old. This has been determined by people who know about these things. They have come to this conclusion by methods like Radiometric Dating of rocks and meteorites. [I do not have any idea what this means.} I think we can be pretty sure we live on a very old planet. A lot can change in over 4 billion years. One of the things that probably changed is the weather or climate whichever you prefer. To my knowledge there has not been any hu

HAPPY THANKSGIVING !
The first Thanksgiving is believed to have taken place November 1621. My first Thanksgiving was slightly later. I think most people enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving is a day that all people can enjoy and celebrate. The day has parades, football and turkey. It kicks off the holiday season. The day says another year is winding down. The new year is on the way and everyone hopes it will bring good things. In the 1950's I remember my father taking me downtown for the

REMEMBERING DETROIT'S OLD MOVIE THEATRES
I am having dinner recently with a couple of neighbors. We are about the same age and grew up in the same parts of Detroit. We begin to talk about the movie theatres we went to as kids. The first one we remember attending when we were very young in the early 1950's was The Dexter Theater. The show was located at 11618 Dexter Detroit, Michigan. The theater was opened in 1926. It had 1226 seats. I remember seeing The Creature From The Black Lagoon on a Saturday afternoon. It wa

THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS ON A TUESDAY
Daylight savings time. We turned the clocks back one hour this past weekend. This was an idea that started in the late 1890's. Someone decided this would save fuel and that people would enjoy an extra hour of sunlight certain times of the year. Move the clocks ahead in the spring and move them back one hour in the fall. Surveys show that most people find the time change annoying and tiring. People don't seem to care about the benefits of time change and would like to see it e
