IT'S CALLED A RADIO

Before there were motion pictures, before television, cable television, the internet, you-tube, streaming and anything else there was the radio. The history of radio goes back to the later part of the 1800's. Guglielmo Marconi is credited with laying the foundation for the modern radio in 1895.

The 1920's to the early 1950's became the golden age of radio. People listened to the radio for all types of entertainment, sports and news. The new invention called television began a new era in broadcasting during the 1950's. That being said radio still exists to this very day.

Seven or eight years ago I said to my wife one day "we do not have a radio that works in our house anymore." I think we should buy a new radio. She thought that was a good idea. I said, I will go shopping for a radio. My wife replied, this is 2018 you do not have go from one store to another anymore. She explained take your I-Phone and type in radio's on Amazon. I typed those words in and a whole selection of radios appeared I found exactly what I was looking for on Amazon. My wife showed me how to order and pay for my new radio. A day or two later this Amazon guy delivers the radio to my front door.

Two Years ago, we sold our house and downsized. I packed my radio in a box and stored it in the back of a closet and forgot about it. Yesterday was a cloudy rainy Sunday. I decide to go into the closet and look in the box I had packed away. I discovered my radio. I tell my wife I know a good place to put this radio in our new home. She agreed. I plugged it in and turned it on. It sounded better than ever. I did not have to call the cable company and make any appointments. I did not have to pay any new fees or buy any special wires or cable boxes.

This radio is amazing! I can listen to the Detroit Tigers game. Listen to talk shows or music. Get the news or stock market reports. The list goes on. This was a great invention.

Don't forget about your radio.

MONDAY MORNING TIGER TALK

The Tigers traded Tarik Skubal the end of week. This had been rumored for weeks. Tarik is a great pitcher. Detroit got three new prospects. Not really exciting for Detroit at this time but the team felt they had to make this change for several reasons. Skubal is now a Los Angeles Dodger.

The Tigers had a good week. Won four of the last six games and scored a lot of runs. Hitting kicked in and a couple of the new young players looked really good.

This week the Tigers will still be on the West Coast. They will play the Mariners followed by the Giants. Every game is important!

They start the week with a record of 54 wins and 58 losses. Winning per-centage of 483. They are 5.5 games behind the leader in their division. Two games away from a possible wild card spot.

I will be watching or listening on my radio.
