THE BEGINNING OF THE ROCK ERA

Shelley Fabares passed away recently at the age of eighty-two. Shelley had a long successful career. She is probably best remembered for being one of the stars of the Donna Reed show when she was a young person. The show was on for five seasons. Later she had a starring role in another popular T.V. show Coach which was on for nine seasons.

When she passed recently, we were reminded that Shelley had also recorded a hit record in the early 1960's called Johnny Angel. The recording climbed very high on the charts.

Thinking about Shelley and her hit song made me think of the music of the era.

What is known as the Rock Era began in the mid 1950's. It was a blend of country music and Rhythm and Blues. Rock and Roll became a pivotal moment in music history. It influenced fashion, attitudes and history.

We are going to take a trip down memory lane and remember some of the hit songs of this new era in music and those people who recorded those songs.

While writing this essay the news came out that Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80. She had a long career and was very popular. Dolly Parton was a great entertainer.

Both Shelley Fabares and Dolly Parton were from the generation of people born in the 1940's and raised in the 1950's. I'm sorry we have lost them.

I hope remembering some of the songs and singers from that era brought back some good memories.
