A VERY DISTURBING DAY!

We were driving east on Maple Road this past Thursday March 12,2026. It was around noon. We were heading towards Trader Joes's at Telegraph and Maple. Somewhere between Halstead and Drake Roads we heard sirens behind us. We pulled to the side of the road. The emergency vehicles past our car. We did not think much of it and began to move on.

Very quickly more emergency vehicles were coming from all directions. Again, we moved to the shoulder of the road. We saw them heading down Farmington Road and Orchard Lake Road. We could now sense that something bad was happening.

We finally arrived at the shopping center at Maple and Telegraph that Trader Joe's is located. We checked the news on our cell phones. We quickly found the very troubling news about what was happening at Temple Israel.

What had happened was what most people today are always concerned about. A fear of some type of serious violence. This one was very close to home. Temple Israel the very beautiful synagogue in West Bloomfield Michigan. A center of Jewish activity in the Detroit area had been attacked. A place that so many people including myself had been to countless times was the target.

I am not sure I have the writing skills to describe this awful event. To call it horrible is an understatement!

Everyone knows that thanks to the Temple's security people, the West Bloomfield Police along with the Police and Sheriff's departments of surrounding communities and First Responders a tragedy of immense proportion was avoided.

We need to be very grateful to these people who work every day to keep us safe.

We are living in trying times!
