The Baseball All Star game was played last Tuesday night. The American League won the game 4 to 0. The National League got three hits. Nobody on the National League team made it past first base.

The All Star game has changed. Some players chosen do not want to participate. The game has changed many players make a great deal of money. Some have long-term contracts. They do not want to play in a game that does not count and take a chance on getting an injury that could hurt there career. If they are in the game they do not want to play hard for the same reason.

A number of years ago Baseball started inter-league play during the regular season. Prior to that the leagues only met in the All-Star game and the World Series. There was a stronger incentive to prove which league was better. That does not exist now.

I think for these reasons the All-Star game has become boring. Players on both sides spent time chatting and joking. When a player got to first base it seemed like a little reunion. The hitter, the first baseman even the coach and umpire looked like they were sharing a joke or slapping each other on the back. It did not look very competitive to me.

I can understand why the players feel the way they do today. This leaves the baseball fan without a very exciting game to watch. Major League Baseball might have to give some thought to how the All Star game came can be changed to make it more interesting to the fans.

The second half of the season has started. The Detroit Tigers played a three game series in California against the Angels. The Tigers took two of the three games. That was a pretty good start.

They now move on to a three game series with the Cubs in Chicago. The games will all be at night. Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. This series is important. They are all important if they want to get into the playoffs. There is still the potential for some trades but nothing has developed at this time. The Royals will be in Detroit playing a four game series later in the week. Big baseball week a lot can happen.

The Tigers start the week with a record of 46wins and 53 losses. Winning percentage of 465. They are 6.5 games behind in the Central Division.
