WE WANT TO GO TO THE MOVIES

I have always been a movie fan. Usually saw a couple of movies a month if not more. Going to a movie was a night out. A way to escape for a couple of hours. Spend some time with friends. Take a date. Take your wife out and leave the kids with a sitter.
The year 2020 brought the Covid Virus. People had to stay home. Movie theatres like many other business's had too temporarily close. When the epidemic ended not all theatres were able to reopen. People did not rush back to those that did open. Many had gotten used to watching the many options available on the flat panel screens they had at home. Maybe they did not like sitting with crowds anymore. There are about one thousand fewer, movie screens in the United States today than there were in 2020. Maybe they just did not find the product being put out by the movie industry worth leaving the house to go see.
My wife and I are retired. We are senior citizens. We have time and look for things to do, Until recently we had not gone to a movie theatre since 2020. As I said we both were regular movie goers most of our live. We did not return to the movie theatres after they reopened because of any fear of crowds. We just seem to have lost interest in the movies being produced. This may have been going on longer than we realized but it showed up when we had to stop going during the pandemic. The motion picture industry must know about the problem Attendance has been dropping for years. Fewer movie screens as theatres close. The dramatic drop in the amount of people watching the annual Oscar show on television. The problem seems obvious. The industry is putting out a poor product! It isn't rocket science. The mystery is why don't those who run the industry get it. Why don't they care?
My wife and I finally returned to the movie theatre this past winter. We saw two pictures we enjoyed. "Song Sung Blue". The other was" Epic" about Elvis Presley. We were also pleasantly surprised by the theatres we attended. They had been remodeled. Larger screens. Brand new and very comfortable seating. You can but tickets and pick your seats online. No more waiting in lines. We enjoyed the pictures and the theatre experience. We agreed we should attend a movie more often. Maybe one or two matinees a week. Sounds like a plan. We have not been back yet.
The reason we have not followed up on this plan is because we cannot find any pictures we want to see.' There is a large population of baby boomers and even older who have the time and money to attend movies. For the most part they are being ignored by the movie industry.
The industry has a lot of work to do to win back the audience of all ages. If they don't think they do they should take a closer look at the numbers. There is an audience who wants to attend movie theatres and see good pictures. It's simple, give us some to see!
